Eddystone, PA, February 18, 2011, Prosthetic Innovations, LLC, a leader in progressive care for upper and lower extremity prosthetic clients across the country, announces their selection by Össur as being one of five certified facilities in the country for the new POWER KNEE.

The new POWER KNEE is the world's first and only motor-powered, designed to function as an integrated extension of its user. Its battery-powered capabilities help address the lost muscle capability and asymmetrical movement often found in people with limb loss. It is the latest addition to Össur’s advanced Bionic Technology platform, which also includes the industry-leading RHEO KNEE microprocessor knee, and Proprio Foot, the world’s first intelligent prosthetic foot.

Prosthetic Innovations, LLC client and Vietnam Veteran, Lou Namm is among the first in the world to receive the prosthetic knee. Namm was serving in Vietnam on May 8, 1969 when he was struck by a mortar and lost both his legs (right transfemoral and left transtibial).

Namm, a Vocational Counselor at the VA Medical Center comments, “Being a double amputee certainly has its challenges, however the progression in technology over the past 40 years has brought me my life back.”

Joining Namm is Prosthetic Innovations, LLC client, Chase Frost (pictured above) who lost his left arm and right leg attempting to put out a town house blaze in Parkside, PA three years ago. Frost, a 24 year old Widener student comments on the new POWER KNEE, “I feel honored to be one of the first recipients of the new POWER KNEE. It is truly indescribable what this will do for all above-knee amputees.
